Questions & Answers
When is the best time to fly?
For those traveling from further afield, we recommend the second half of April to October, as the weather risk is lowest during this time. If you can easily reschedule, flights are possible year-round. Winter flights can be very attractive. Plus, jets have more thrust in colder air, and there's less turbulence. Incidentally, Sion is the sunniest city in Switzerland.
What is the recommended flight duration?
We recommend the longer flight duration of 45 minutes, as it offers a variety of options: more opportunity to pilot the aircraft yourself, more diverse aerobatic maneuvers, and more picturesque Alpine scenery. You'll be surprised by how diverse the landscapes are and how many unforgettable impressions you'll gain in such a short time.
What is the process?
Your fighter jet adventure begins with an introduction to the Aero L-39 Albatros. During the briefing, your pilot will tailor a flight program to your needs and explain the most important rules for handling the jet. After a safety briefing and being provided with appropriate clothing, you will take your seat in the cockpit and be securely strapped in. Your pilot will then familiarize you with the instruments and prepare you to take control of the jet yourself. The journey begins with connection checks and engine tests before the spectacular flight from the Swiss Air Force base begins. After landing, there will be a photo shoot in front of the jet to capture the memories. Afterwards, you will have the opportunity to change and reminisce about the exciting experiences with the pilot over a chat – and if time allows, a drink! This fighter jet adventure from Sion lasts approximately three hours in total.
What are the maximum size and weight?
If you're over 1.95m and 105kg, we recommend taking a closer look and checking with the pilot. If in doubt, you can also quickly test-sit.
What should I wear, what equipment do I need?
Wear comfortable clothes and bring a change of T-shirt. Adrenaline, excitement, and G-forces have resulted in many a sweaty passenger. The necessary equipment, such as a helmet, oxygen mask, and flight overalls, will be provided.
Can family/friends come along?
Your companion is welcome to experience all the preparations, including takeoff, landing, and overflight, up close. Photos are welcome.
Can a video be booked?
Photos and videos can be taken from the ground free of charge. Flight video can be booked as an additional service – simply select this option during checkout (shopping cart).
How long does the entire experience last?
Allow approximately three hours.
Are fighter jet flights dangerous?
No, fighter jet flights are safe. In over 20 years and with thousands of satisfied customers, there hasn't been a single problem. Regarding the health check: If you have severe back problems, untreated high blood pressure, heart problems, or a pacemaker, you should consult a doctor if in doubt. Pregnancy is a non-issue. If you have a fear of flying or claustrophobia, you can try out the jet beforehand while another customer is flying. If it still doesn't work out, you'll of course get your money back.
Should I be afraid of flying a jet?
Definitely not! It's normal to be nervous beforehand, but fear is unnecessary. The flight program is individually tailored to your wishes and well-being. Your pilot will look after you throughout the flight and regularly check in on your well-being. Together, you'll create an experience that precisely meets your expectations of thrills and fun. The focus is solely on you—not on demonstrating the pilot's skills or the jet's performance limits. Share your wishes in advance: whether that's longer breaks between maneuvers, lower G-forces, or other adjustments. Your well-being is our top priority, and your pilot will ensure this flight is unforgettable. If you have a fear of flying or claustrophobia, you can test-drive the seats beforehand.
Can I learn more about the L-39 Albatros?
The Aero L-39 Albatros is a fascinating aircraft developed in Czechoslovakia. This two-seat, single-engine trainer and light ground attack aircraft made its maiden flight in 1968 and entered service in 1971. It was the world's first training aircraft powered by a turbofan engine and was designed as the successor to the L-29 Delfín. With approximately 2,800 units produced, the L-39 is one of the most successful jet trainers in the world. In addition to its primary function as a military jet trainer, the L-39 was also used for light ground attack missions. Its robust construction, easy maintenance, and versatility made it extremely popular in more than 30 countries. Today, it is prized not only by the military but also by civilian aircraft enthusiasts and aerobatic teams such as the Breitling Jet Team. The modern version, the L-39NG, combines the classic charm of the L-39 with the latest technology and is still in production.
